| Why Can't I Print "Favorites" List On Paper? | |

At the QCS general
meeting on March 10th, 1999 a member asked why the 'Favorites' from
Internet Explorer could not be printed on paper? The answer is because
each entry into the "Favorites" folder is a separate file itself (unlike
Navigator, which puts all "Bookmarks" in one file). However, there are
two solutions: If you have IE v5.0 there is a feature that allows the
user to export the "Favorites" to a single HTML file.1
For those using IE v4.0 and older, you can download a freeware program
that does the same conversion process. Go to "HotFiles" at www.hotfiles.com and search for the program "FavToHtml Wizard." This is a Zip compressed file so you will need a program like "WinZip" www.winzip.com to extract the compressed files.
You can then print the exported HTML file via a text editor like "Notepad" but you will have all the hypertext code cluttering the print job. Better yet you could attach the HTML file to an e-mail message and send it to a friend.2 Create a new message in the usual way, then click "insert" or "attach" depending on your e-mail program, and use the "browse" function to find the file, then click "open". |
TOGGLE Editor's Comments
1 Exporting the "Favorites" HTML file is a bit more complicated than stated. When using IE 5.0: 1. Select (Click on) Favorites 2. Click on File 3. Click on Import/Export This brings up Import/Export Wizard 4. Click on Next This brings up the list Import Favorites Export Favorites Import Cookies Export Cookies 5. Select the appropriate one (e.g. Export Favorites) from the list and Click on it. 6. You will be shown what the file will be named and where it will be saved. You can accept those choices, or change the filename and destination. 2 The comments about attaching the file to an e-mail message presumes that you want to send the list of your Favorites to a friend so that he or she can use the same list. |
