Five Disk Rescue Set
[Norton's AntiVirus recovery program]
by L. D. Louks, Symantec
(One of our (TAPCUG) members asked Mr. Louks at the August presentation [to TAPCUG] how to create the five disks for a recovery. He was unfamiliar with that aspect, so did research on it for us. TAPCUG Ed.)

The concept of the five disk Rescue set for NAV was something that was new to me. I spoke with one of the Norton Antivirus technicians yesterday afternoon. Here is the information that he gave me. (This is to allow the inclusion of more antivirus definitions on the Rescue set than was possible before.)

The following link upgrades Norton Antivirus from 5.0 to 5.01. (Check the Help, About to see the version you have.)

Upgrade Page for Norton Antivirus Products

Now Live Update gets you to 5.01a then 5.01b. (Run Live Update until you are notified that there are no further updates available.) At this point you should be able to create the 5 Rescue disks.
However System Works comes installed as 5.01c. There is a patch on the web site to help you create the 5 disks once you are at the current version.

Why Does the Rescue Program for Norton AntiVirus Now Require Five Disks? Why Five Disks?

You can now download the patch that allows you to use the 5 Rescue disks from the following web page:

Before creating the Rescue disks, it's a good idea to close all background programs by pressing Ctrl - Alt - Del and then ending each task with the exception of Explorer and Systray.
