On Help Lines
(In this case - Linux)
by Mark West, Tokyo PC User's Group (www.tokyopc.org)
One of the great things about a user group is its collective knowledge. Recently, I have been trying new Linux tricks, at least new to me. It sounded easy in the books. Boot from floppy, select network install, type in the path and everything works. That's only if everything is set up properly on both machines. Installing a new OS can be a painful experience when one machine is involved, let alone two. With a few postings to the user group, Jim, Peter and others helped this lost soul find the errors of his ways. The other thing that I discovered is that reference books make much more sense once you know what is going on. I'm not sure how many times that I read the section in Linux books on NFS. Thankfully, after each answer from the group1, it made a little more sense, until the light finally came on.
Thank you to everyone that helped me through the Linux network installation. It is easy once you know what you are doing. If you have a problem, take the advice of a fellow user and avail yourself of the news groups. They are great. My next question is already posted and I know that I will have the answer I need in a couple of days. If you would like to see what I have been up to lately, visit www.gaijin.org.

Let me know what you think, your comments are welcome.
