What is the taskbar? Essentially, it's that bar on the bottom (usually on the bottom) of the desktop that allows the user to switch between open windows and to access other commands.

Microsoft defines the taskbar as:

A special component of the desktop that is used to switch between open windows and to access global commands and other frequently used objects. As a result, it provides a home base — an operational anchor for the interface.
