Flagging What's New on toggle.org?
Regular visitors to a website soon learn that certain areas of the site change infrequently, if at all, while others change continually from day-to-day or week-to-week--or brand-new features are added, often without fanfare. If you don't explore you may never be aware of the changes and may miss a neat, even important, feature not mentioned in the newsletter or at a monthly meeting. We have pondered how to make you aware of updates when you visit the Website without taking too much of the time and effort of our very busy webmaster. Perhaps an automatic "flag" tied to some arbitrary elapsed time since the last update of an addition or change might fly, if we can figure out how to implement it simply. Until we figure that out, if ever, you should probably follow a routine of checking specific areas--sometimes two or three levels down--when you visit. The areas to look for changes and their approximate frequency are: * Meeting date "ticker tape" - monthly * Programs - when one is scheduled * Newsletter - monthly * Q & A - usually monthly * Tips & Tricks * Bob's Corner - when inspired/monthly * Ray's Tips & Tricks - when inspired/monthly * Virus Hot List - at least monthly |
New name for Beta Testing?
In Beginner's Notes & Tips, page 3, your Editor added comments as footnotes to a short Q&A item. During preparation of the footnote about Beta test software, a typographical error produced "siftware". We like it! Siftware = Beta test version of software! True to Type, Faceless Type "A" Saves Face in TrueType Typeface Face-off Agressive editing. That's what we call it! Wanna make sumpin' outta it? We cram as much information into each issue as we can. Often, we've broken the "rules of good editing". We didn't always start a new section at the top of the page; seldom continued an article started on one page as an insert on a later page; played with type size and line spacing to keep an item on one page by pulling lines spilling onto the next page back to this one. We backed off some in this issue and increased type size and spacing a bit. How do you like it? Any easier to read? December Meeting A Piece o'Cake In the last few years our December meeting has been a regular one with computer-related announcements, Q&A session, library disk offerings--then adjournment to enjoy seasonal goodies brought in by our members. Feel free to bring in a plate of your favorite Christmas cookies, Hannukah handouts, Kwanza kupkakes, or a non-alcoholic Wassail Bowl (an oxymoron?)--and while sampling the fare, use the opportunity to "network" with your fellow members and get to know them even better. |
