Want to Receive a FAX Without a FAX Machine?
from June 1999, Q Bits, Quad Cities Computer Society
John Greve, a QCS member, just recently signed onto this eFAX.com service. [It's still active - ed]

Here's how the system works: When a person wants to send you a fax, they simply dial your unique eFax number and press send. Just like regular faxes, eFaxes can include text, graphics or both.

Once sent, your fax is received at the eFax Service Center, compressed and protected with your personal password for security, then instantly forwarded to your e-mail address.
After you sign up, you'll receive a confirmation e-mail that includes your eFax number, PIN, plus the eFax Microviewer. From then on, you only need to return to their site to get Microviewers for other computers or for your friends, or to check on your account status.

The eFax Microviewer comes in Win95/98 and Win 3.1/3.11 versions. The eFax images are in TIFF-F format which is a standard TIFF file. Other operating systems like the MacIntosh can read TIFF files. There are many shareware graphics programs that will read the TIFF format also.
