Q: I have a fairly
simple but annoying problem. I have Windows 98 and I don't understand
why the Clear History option under the Tools/Internet Options menu does
not always delete my history list. I have set the "Days to Keep History"
option to zero and I have tried everything in the book. I must admit
that sometimes (two in 10) my history file does clear -- but can find no
correlation between the rare clearing of the history and anything I've
done. I need a foolproof way to make the history list go away at the end
of my sessions.

A: First, let's
set the context for other users. Microsoft Internet Explorer has a
History panel that can be toggled on or off. This panel displays all the
sites you've visited since you last cleared the history. You can
specify in Internet Explorer how many days Web-site visits should be
retained. I was stumped by the same problem until I found that the Clear
History option only works when you actually have the History panel
showing in Internet Explorer. So the solution is to click on the History
button in the tool-bar before you go to the Tools/Internet Options menu
to clear the History.
