Computer Help Via the Internet
by Carl Tenning, Tacoma Open Group For Microcomputers

The amount of information assessible via the internet is enormous and is probably increasing exponentially with time. If you have ever had a computer problem, the answer is probably on the internet. The key to finding the right help is an internet search engine. The one I use is GOOGLE at www.google.com/. Just type in a phrase describing your problem and it is likely someone else has also had this problem and has posted the solution on the internet.

Here is an interesting solution I found at

Preventing Messenger Pop-Ups in Windows XP
To do this, go to "Administrative Tools" on the Control Panel and open "Services". Then locate "Messenger" and open "Messenger Properties", Set the "Startup Type" to disabled and click the "Stop" button. Finish by clicking the "Apply" button and close all windows. I found that on my computer it was already set to "Stopped", so this may actually be the default. However, if Messenger pop-ups are bugging you, this may be the solution.
