Cannot Open Forwarded E-Mails
by Carl Tenning, Tacoma Open Group for Microcomputers

I have a group of retiree friends who frequently send each other forwarded e-mails. One of the group responded that he could not open the forwarded e-mails from one specific member. The particular forwarded e-mail came from a member who was using MSN for sending his e-mails. I also have MSN and could open the attachment without difficulty. But our friend who was using Outlook Express, could not open the attachment. Taking a look at the attachment filename, the extension was dot "email".

Outlook Express does not recognize the file type "email". However, it does recognize the file type dot "eml". So I had our friend save the attachment to the hard drive and then change the file name extension to "eml". With this change, the attachment can now be opened with Outlook Express by double clicking on the file name.
