Removing Stubborn Programs
by Bob Thomson, Tacoma Open Group for Microcomputers

The other day I had to relearn something I hadn't done for some time. I had installed the program Sandboxie (Feb07 TOGGLE) which allows you to run programs in a special area of memory without impacting other installed programs.

I was getting some messages to upgrade, etc. and I didn't want to do that right now, so I decided to delete it from the computer.

I went to Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove and scrolled down to Sandboxie where I had to accept the license statement but then, when I clicked Remove, it would not complete the removal task.

The program was apparently starting on bootup and could not be uninstalled while running. Then I remembered how to stop it from running on bootup.

Go to Start - Run and enter msconfig in the box. The list of programs that run on startup will be displayed, each beside a checked box. Scroll down to find Sandboxie and uncheck the box.

Reboot the computer. Go to Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove - scroll down to Sandboxie and now it will be deleted when you select that option.
