Good ole Smart Computing Q&A Board came through for me again.
About two weeks ago I started seeing the windows security icon in my systray. That is the icon that looks like a red heart with a white X in the center.
Before the icon would appear, but then disappear when it saw my Symantec AV was present. Then it just started remaining there all the time. I just hate looking at icons that I don't need or want.
Anyway a Q&A Board reader of Smart Computing came through with an answer that enables me to get rid of the icon. See below how this member answered my question.

Go to the control panel, open the security center then select "change the way security center alerts me". Uncheck what you want.
I disabled the security center on my XP computer because it didn't recognize the programs I had installed. As long as you are updating your programs on a regular basis and running scans, you really don't need it.
