One Application Won't Connect to the Internet

If at least one application, such as a browser, will connect to the internet, but another will not, check your firewall settings. It may be the firewall blocking a specific application. After installing Firefox 3, my MSN browser would no longer log into my account. Both IE7 and Firefox 3 could receive the internet, but MSN would not get past the log-in screen. MSN technical help, after checking several other browser settings, suggested that it might be my firewall that was blocking the MSN log-in. The firewall on this particular machine was Comodo. Opening Comodo and entering the MSN application as a trusted application solved the problem.

MSN.EXE is found in C:\Program Files\MSN, but is in a hidden folder "MSNCoreFiles". To view the hidden folder, open Windows Explorer to C:\Program Files\MSN. Click on the "Tools" tab and select "Folder Options" then click on the "View" tab. Uncheck the box "Hide protected operating system files". After doing this you will be able to have Comodo browse and find MSN.EXE. After entering MSN.EXE as a safe application in Comodo, you may wish to go back and re-check the "Hide protected operating system files" box in Folder Options.
