Beginners
In An Energy Correction, in the Beginners section, the author discusses some comments made on his series of theoretical calculations of various forms of energy use in the article "Which laptop is best for losing weight?" which appeared in the June issue of the TOGGLE. He disagrees with the commenter's calculation correcting it and suggests that you readers might want to do your own assessment.
Operating System
Over the past few months we have carried articles, by Neil Stahfest of the Tacoma PC Users Group, describing his experiences with Microsoft Vista. In this issue in the article Moving on to Vista Part 7 he continues his discussioon of the Vista operating system.
In From My Vista another author Robert Limbaugh, of the Danbury Area Computer Society, tells us of his Vista experiences. While not as detailed as Neil Stahfest's articles on the same subject it presents another viewpoint on Vista presented here for your edification.
Then in Lose Unneeded Windows Services author Ron Graham discusses getting rid of unneeded programs which load on Start up. As you may know many vendor programs load startup software leading to their product in the Startup queue. These extra program callouts tend to make the startup process unnecessarily lengthy loading programs that you normally wish to use only occasionally and on demand. Here the author tells newbies and reminds old timers how to use msconfig to examine the list of Startup programs. to uncheck those you think you don't need, reboot and try using the computer without them loaded. If you think that was a mistake you can use msconfig to go back and check them again.
