Operating System
   In Windows XP Expires the author discusses the various ways in which Windows XP will fade slowly into the sunset over the next few years. It will not be a sudden transition but you can extend its demise in various ways.

   In Cloud Computing - The Future of Personal Computing the author tells us that this is a new buzz word in computing whose definition is vague. He then proceeds to explain his interpretation of what Cloud Computing means. His interpretation is that you will access programs, files, data, etc. over the Internet with nothing being stored on your own computer. Read it and see the implications of this development.

   In Linux On A Laptop Brian Lewis tells us of his experience in loading a version of Linux (Ubuntu) on his five year old laptop computer. perhaps you can learn something useful from his experience.

Communications
   In our August 2008 issue we carried an article titled Remote Control Software - Team Viewer, which described a program which another person could use, with your permission to access your
computer remotely and manipulate it to help solve a problem. In this issue, the article Using CrossLoop to Troubleshoot and Control Remote Machines covers similar territory. TOG President Carl Tenning and your editor have already successfully tried out Team Viewer briefly. It might be interesting to compare the two programs in a future meeting using a couple of laptop computers communicating through the Internet.

   In Get Unleashed With Wireless USB the author Vinnie LaBash discusses the trend to get rid of all those wires behind your PC. More and more products are being offered as wireless devices. They still must be reasonably close to your PC for good communication but not necessarily right next to it.

General Interest
   In Stop The Video Gap! A review of the Pinnacle Video Transfer the author describes his experience with this video transfer system for converting analog video tapes to digital meadia. He recommends it.

   In the article Need a sticky note? Put it on your computer! the author describes this "reminder" program with which your editor is not familiar. It looks like it could be very useful and it is free,

   In An Infection Repair Case the author describes his experience in trouble shooting a computer which had become infected with rogue software viruses. He suggests that you download a copy of HijackThis, which is freeware, and have it handy in case you ever need it.
