UPDATE
In Cut It Out Bob Hawes of New Jersey's ACGNJ News discusses copying sections of the text and figures from a PDF file. This is a technique which apparently requires some perseverance but should be worth it, especially for writers and editors who want to copy sections from another newsletter which is in PDF format.

Have you ever seen a video on YouTube that you wanted to save? YouTube makes it impossible for you to do that. Or does it? In the article YouTube for Posterity the author describes at least one method for capturing those YouTube videos on disk so you can view them later--even share them with friends. It has the imaginative title YouTubeDownloader!

In Saving Pictures That Show On Your Screen the author describes how to use the Print Screen key on your keyboard to capture images on your screen as stand-alone JPEG files. This is not new, but many of you, like your editor, may have forgotten how to do this.

In Copying Information from Your Screen the author acknowleges the value of the information in the previous (above) article but adds another way to handle some items, such as scrolling screens, that Print Screen (PrtScn) cannot manage. He recommends a fairly cheap commercial product Fastone Capture to handle items not handled by PrtScn.

Speaking of copying information from your screen check out the satisfying story in Stolen Laptop Catches Its Own Thief where the authoress uses built-in features of her Macintosh to
great advantage. Could this technique be aplied to PCs as well? We had a demo of remote access software a few months back. Hmmm.

In Power Efficient Computing the author describes things that you can do to use less energy while doing your computing chores or just having fun. With all the emphasis on power saving these days this seems like the thing to do.

In Surviving The Switch To Digital the author describes what has to be done to continue receiving television programming after the switch takes palce. We know now that the switch has been postponed until early summer. Unless you have been living under a rock you must have already heard about this. If not now you know.

In Things Your Cell Phone can do that you may not know the author also tries to dispel some myths about them. Learn about free directory service, voice dialing and more. Under the heading of myths, some of those debunked have been confirmed as true by several reputable people. Just try them for yourself. Who knows? They may work!

In Windows 7 Is Comming Soon Sandy Berger gives us a brief overview.

In her This and That column Elizabeth Wright of Oklahoma City reminds us of the file numbering system in computerese.
