Outlook Express 6 and Viruses

Although it isn't the usual approach it is possible for an e-mail virus to automatically launch when the e-mail message opens in the preview pane. To eliminate this possibility, you should disable the Outlook Express Preview pane. To do this, choose View/Layout and deselect the "Show preview pane" check box.

Click OK to close the dialog box and apply your selection. You can now look for the small paperclip icon in the left column of Outlook Express to see if a message has an attachment and, if so, who sent it. If you don't know or trust the sender, delete the message without opening it.
