| Backing Up Outlook Express Email | |

If you have ever had the
unfortunate experience of getting a corrupted email file in Outlook
Express, you may have found that your old emails were no longer
accessable. It would be nice to have a backup.
Outlook Express stores email in a database file with the extension .DBX. There is one .DBX file for each email folder. To find the folder containing these files, do a search for files *.dbx. It may be a rather obscure folder such as: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{DD0B235F-1F75-417D-A03B-2821341E0D2E}\ Microsoft\Outlook Express |
My email folder was
several megabytes. Copy the entire folder to a backup media such as a
Zip Disk or CD-ROM. Then if you should ever get a corrupted email file,
you can restore the approproiate .dbf file to the email folder.
A web site that explains this further and gives another method of finding the email folder is: http://www.iopus.com/guides/oe-backup.htm |
